IT: Chapter Two now has a filming start date set for this July. The upcoming sequel to Andrés Muschietti’s 2017 film, IT - based on the beloved 1986 Stephen King novel of the same name and somewhat of a reboot of the 1990 TV miniseries that starred Tim Curry as Pennywise the Clown - was confirmed long before the first film even hit theaters last fall. The story was always envisioned as a two-part event, and now that sequel is starting to move forward.

Shortly after IT released last year and went on a record-breaking spree at the domestic and worldwide box office, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema immediately confirmed that the second and final installment would release over the same weekend in 2019, thus giving the studios a chance at striking lightning in a bottle twice. IT: Chapter Two was set to start filming in June (following a similar production schedule to the first movie), but it seems that’s no longer the case. But that’s nothing to worry about as the film is expected to roll cameras just a few weeks later.

IT and IT: Chapter Two producer Roy Lee recently confirmed to IndieWire that the sequel is slated to start filming in July, thus giving the cast and crew plenty of time to complete principal photography on the film to meet its planned September 2019 release date.

Now that IT: Chapter Two is set to enter production within the next few months, the studio should be rounding out the sequel’s cast somewhat soon - in addition, of course, to Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as Pennywise the Clown. While all the Losers Club kids from the first movie will be returning for the sequel, IT: Chapter Two still takes place decades later in the present-day, which means adult versions of each character will need to be cast. And fans have quite a few ideas in mind for who they would like to see star in the roles. One of them is Jessica Chastain, who’s a fan-favorite for an adult Beverly. In fact, Chastain is in talks to star in IT: Chapter Two but no deal has been made as of yet.

Again, in addition to adult versions of each character, IT: Chapter Two is expected to see the return of the original kids as well, who will be back in smaller roles for flashbacks. That includes Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard. What’s interesting is that, while IT released more than a year after Stranger Things first debuted on Netflix, it was originally IT’s delay to 2017 that even allowed Wolfhard to appear on the hit ’80s series. And now, it seems that the actor will have his scenes complete in Hawkins for Stranger Things 3 before heading to Derry this summer for IT: Chapter Two.
