Update 2 9:45PM ET: Users this evening again reported issues centered around iCloud. The outage affected all store services, according to Apple’s status page. It appears to have been resolved, however, with the exception of Game Center. Update: After about an hour of downtime and still with no admission from Apple of anything ever having gone wrong, iCloud services seem to be coming back online now. The iTunes Remote app has today received an update to support the upcoming iPad Pro 11- and 12.9-inch screen resolutions. The update, version 4.4.1, also brings some other bug fixes and stability improvements to the table. Shortcuts and TestFlight have also been updated for the new iPad Pros. Today’s update improves overall network connectivity, as well as makes it easier to access now playing and the AirPlay menu, and new shortcuts for play and shuffle for playlists and albums....

Apple hired a new leader for its tax department, according to an SEC filing this morning. Phillip Bullock, formerly Symantec’s Chief Accounting Officer, chose to leave the company he joined in 2006 to join the winning team in Cupertino. Bullok has years of experience in the industry, serving as Vice President of Tax and Trade Compliance starting in 2006. He took responsibility for Symantec’s corporate risk assurance function in March 2007, and then he became Chief Accounting Officer in 2009....

Apple has updated its iTunes Remote app for the first time since early last year. The new version includes support for the iPhone X’s larger display as well as iOS 12. It also features a totally new design including a new app icon. The upcoming remake of Jacob’s Ladder has officially released its first trailer. The original film, which was written by Bruce Joel Rubin and directed by Adrian Lyne (Fatal Attraction), is about a Vietnam war veteran called Jacob (played by Tim Robbins) who returns home and is plagued by violent, extended hallucinations of monsters in the city around him. Convinced that his visions are the result of more than just a bad case of PTSD, Jacob seeks out his old platoon-mates and tries to get to the bottom of what is driving him insane, only to find even more questions and confusion....

Given the recent advent of high-minded sci-fi in movies like Arrival and Ex Machina, and in TV shows like Black Mirror, the genre is going through an era of both great creativity and distinct anxiety about what the future holds....

The draft industry transformation plan (ITP) for the digital technologies sector outlines there are seven key focus areas that need to be targeted. These include developing the country’s digital skills and talent pipeline; increasing the number of New Zealand digital technologies exporters, with a focus on the intellectual property producing models of software-as-a-service (SaaS) and interactive media; and removing barriers to increase Māori participation across all capacities.
